Campobello di Mazara is a town in the province of Trapani, extending towards the coast and the seaside frazioni of Tre Fontane and Torretta Granitola. These coastal settlements are chiefly inhabited during the summer, when the town’s territory takes on a more maritime character.
The name Campobello derives from Campus Belli, the name given by the Romans to the site of the battle between Segesta and Selinunte. Over time, the name came to be associated with the town itself, linking its present identity to the rivalries of the ancient western Sicilian landscape.
Nearby, the ancient quarries of Rocche di Cusa offer a direct connection with Selinunte. It was here that the Selinuntines extracted the stone used to build their temples, leaving the quarry landscape as a reminder of the scale and ambition of the ancient city.
