Housed in a restored 16th-century former monastery, MUCEB – Museo della Ceramica di Burgio traces the town’s long tradition of maiolica production through a collection dating from the 11th century. Its displays offer both a historical and technical perspective on Burgio’s distinctive ceramic heritage.

The museum is arranged across three exhibition halls: the former refectory, the assembly hall and the former cells. A particular highlight is the collection of more than 500 ceramic tiles by local artist Carmelo Giallo, which provides a vivid focus within the wider story of local production.

Visitors often value the free admission, the character of the setting and the knowledgeable, friendly guides, who add detailed historical context to the exhibits. The museum remains relatively little known, however, and reaching Burgio involves navigating narrow, winding roads; some visitors also find the number of pieces on display limited.

MUCEB is at Piazza Santa Maria in Burgio, in the province of Agrigento. Admission is free and advance booking is not required. Further information is available at muceb.it.
